New Treatments, New Techniques Demand New Physical Environments

The science and practice of medicine are changing more rapidly than ever before. The drive toward patient-centered care, with its multidisciplinary approach, is transforming how medicine is taught. Our classrooms need to be flexible and technology-friendly to reflect medicine’s new emphasis on team learning and information sharing. The Penn Medicine community has worked together to create new patient care and research facilities. Now, our educational campus needs to upgrade and adapt to provide both the leading-edge technology and collaborative environment that will continue to make our students extraordinary healers.

The proposed Medical Education Center will be formed by upgrading and renovating existing structures to create a new and distinctive campus presence for Penn Medicine. This state-of-the-art, flexible learning environment will provide our talented students with the tools and technologies to best prepare them for biomedical careers in the 21st century. It will also be a capstone to the remarkable developments on the Penn Medicine campus, which have included the Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, the Roberts Proton Therapy Center and the Smilow Center for Translational Research.

Our students, faculty and innovative curriculum are second to none.
